Another Article About Artery Dissection

I absolutely love articles that warn about the dangers of artery dissection! It creates awareness for the reader. I imagine a first responder, nurse or physician reading through this article and storing that diagnosis somewhere in their brain to save a life like mine someday. The portion of this article that I detest is the comment sections! Many people claim this to be “fake”; others think that chiropractors are a godsend; some flat-out think there is no danger to neck manipulation and it literally made me sick to my stomach to read. I made the mistake of commenting on this article (something I NEVER do!) and had a man respond by saying that I am a liar who needs to do research. I have done nothing but research since my dissections and strokes in 2020. I called the man out for likely being a chiro…and was half-correct. He is a PT who uses neck manipulation as one of his tools. All-in-all, I do not suggest getting worked-up about the comments. It was definitely a waste of my sanity for a day.

I try so hard since my VAD/strokes to mind my own business when people talk about seeing a chiropractor. At the end of the day, it’s your choice if you trust your chiropractor to take care of your body. BUT…It can be extremely dangerous to have someone crack your neck the way many of them do. I am not saying that all adjustments are bad, but I highly suggest taking care of your neck. The arteries of your neck are surrounded by soft tissue that leaves them more exposed than the other arteries in your body. And it’s not just chiro adjustments that are dangerous; there are many other risks such as getting your hair washed at a salon (due neck placement on washing sink), deep massage, putting a barbell on your neck when weight-lifting, ski accidents, whiplash, etc.

I can’t stress this enough….TAKE CARE OF YOUR NECK!
